In his personal life, he's the latter. Out and about he is known to be talkative, friendly, and good humored. Able to turn on the charms when it comes to everyone. He's popular at school, and excells in academics and his social life there in this sense. At home, however, and outside of this - he tends to grow more quiet and reserved. Without a real role model to look up to, his father puts rather harsh ideas in his head and he knows he wants him seen and not heard. His dad's social life is thriving - but his, outside of school lacks for this reason. Not that anyone has pried enough to find out why. parents-- David Thatcher (42; Unemployed ranch hand) and Abigail Thatcher (40; Deceased) sibling(s)-- None pets-- None history-- Jeremy was born to a pair of working class parents and thus knew what it was like to grow up poor. Things were generally hard on the family, with his dad working as a ranch hand, and his mother working long hours as a nurse to provide proper income. For a while, they were happy, though poor, but everything changed when his mother got sick. Once cancer had taken her around when Jeremy turned ten, his father fell into a deep depression. He stopped showing up for work on time, drank a lot, slept long hours, and became openly belligerent and abusive to his son. Even so, Jeremy's life trekked on as he grew. Excelling in school, he made friends, and found his escape there. Given this everything seemed fine - despite his dark secret. However, his father never got better - only falling deeper into self-pity and abusiveness. Eventually, this lead to an injury on the job while he wasn't paying attention. Having crippled his leg in the accident, his father was put out of work when Jeremy was thirteen. Circumstances now became worse. His father left home for days at a time, and when he was home, he was angry, drunk, and aggressive. The threat of death remained the only thing that keeps Jeremy with his mouth shut and his head down. He's recently been forced to drop his athletic activities and become a busboy at the local diner after school. Hoping to make ends meet and keep food on the table, since he knows even if his father could get a job, he won't. Though people have begun to notice his change in demeanor outside of school - Jeremy is doing his best to keep them from learning his secret. Not ready, or willing to have his life uprooted if he's taken away. His only after-school escape has been his poetry, something he's recently discovered a knack for, but which no one will ever know about. He dreams that one day, he might get out of town, make a name for himself with it, or sports, and never look back. But the worse things get at home - the more he wonders if he'll live long enough to see that through. name; Christime zone; PST |
